CELEBRATE CARTOONISTS DAY!

I remember that the cartoon character "Skippy" used to be run in the old Portland News Telegram. Can you tell me when it was first conceived and how long it ran in the newspapers? Also, who was the originator?

"Skippy" by Percy Crosby debuted in Life Magazine on March 15, 1923. In newspaper syndication, it ran from June 23 of that year through December 8, 1945.
Charles Schulz often cited Crosby's work as being one of his biggest inspirations for "Peanuts." The character of Skippy Skinner also starred in a 1931 movie, played by Jackie Cooper, and in a radio series.
See http://www.skippy.com for the story of Percy Crosby's life, and the legal battles that his daughter has fought to preserve her father's copyright.
