This is very cool! I've been doing some research on my great-grandfather, but my family knows very little. One of the pieces
of info recently learned was that he was a cartoonist for the Philadelphia Inquirer soon after the turn of the century. I'm
placing it at 1905-1915? His name was Louis McCartney. Would you have any suggestions about how i would locate some
of his cartoons? I've been in touch with the Philadelphia Inquirer and the 'Free Library of Philadelphia' and they both
suggested I try finding it through some kind of cartoon archive. Do you know if one exists? I live in Ann Arbor, MI
and getting to Philadelphia is not so easy. Thanks for any and all help.
I've sent off e-mails to the Michigan State University library (which
has one of the largest comics archives in the country, and is in your
neck of the woods), and to the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists
(I'm guessing that Louis might have been an editorial cartoonist rather
than a strip cartoonist). When and if I hear from either of them (or if
I hear anything from one of the readers of this website), I'll let you
know.
