Who was "Baby Dumpling" the daughter of?

Baby Dumpling was the toddler son of Blondie and Dagwood Bumstead. As he grew older, the name seemed less appropriate, so he was given the "real" name Alexander.
One wonders, though... Blondie, Dagwood, Baby Dumpling, and Cookie... does that sound like a typical suburban family, or the menu at the corner deli?
